Description: Iftar event held by Mayor Eric Adams last Tuesday was disrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters.
Date: March 13, 2025

Tuesday evening saw a change of normal daily activities at Carl Schurz Park in the Upper East Side.
The pro-Palestinian organization Within Our Lifetime held a protest to disrupt an event hosted by Mayor Eric Adams at Gracie Mansion and express solidarity Mahmoud Khalil—the former Columbia graduate student who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last Saturday.

The event Adams was hosting was Iftar—the break-fast meal for Muslims during the month of Ramadan. Law enforcement used barricades to block an entrance to Carl Schurz Park, as well as closing down several blocks on East End Avenue which led to Gracie Mansion.
However, this did not stop clashes between the protesters and the large numbers of police who were present on the scene. The protesters held signs which read “Release Mahmoud Khalil Now” and repeatedly chanted “Gaza”.
